Passage Aims to Make 3D-Space Creation ‘Easy’

Cosmos SDK built Passage seeks to make 3D meetings “frictionless” with drag and drop world building and the ability to stream from any device.

In a June 30 blog post, Passage drills down into how they are developing the next generation of online engagement by developing tools to create 3D spaces. Using Zoom –the widely used software product for online meetings– as an example, Passage points out the need to download software and limitations of the online meeting platform. Everything is streamed with Passage and there is no need for any downloads. Instead of being stuck in a tiny box, Passage users can explore their meetings, haunted maze, interior design demo or virtual music performance.

Passage Worlds

“As we talk about who is Passage built for, our why was really about creating a more human experience,” Passage CEO Caleb Applegate said. “So instead of just pages, we wanted to create a Passage. A place. Where you have social connectivity, you have immersion and engagement, and experiential fill in the blank.”

Passage says making a 3D experience is currently labor intensive with hundreds of trained developers taking years to produce products. The company is on a mission to disrupt 3D modeling and video game industries by making it easy to build online 3D spaces where communities, teams, and events can drag and drop their way to the finish line. This will be accomplished through an asset marketplace, where users can pick out 3D models or even game mechanics to add to their drag and drop worlds.

Sharing these online worlds to major platforms with a simple link is in the works. Users will be able to stream from Passage to different platforms simultaneously, allowing participants to engage from wherever they are.

A social feed and dashboard brings the Passage experience together, making it a social network full of user-created worlds powered by Unreal Engine 5.

The Passage team has said they feel what they are building is the “next step for online spaces” and are closing the gap between creators and audiences.

Alpha testing is in progress with social features being tested next. No release date has been set, but the team has made rapid advancements and is actively communicating on Discord and Twitter.
