Howl, a decentralized social media platform built on Juno, has gotten a boost in terms of tooling from one of its users, Howlpack.
Howl Social, an idea cooked up in 2021 at Cosmoverse Lisbon in a hotel lobby, was built by various Juno developers and is an actual working product that uses Keplr wallet integration. Users on the site can create posts and connect with others with a novel staking feature that rewards content creators and the users who “like” their posts. A 60%/40% revenue sharing model allows people on Howl to earn real money from creating content.
Development has slowed in recent months due to developers working on other projects and that has allowed individuals like Howlpack, a Juno community member who reached out to Howl creators TheFrey and Callum, to step up and create tools for Howl.
Howlpack has contributed to the main Howl project and has made tools such as email notifications for Howl, a rewards calculator, webhooks, and a bot that auto stakes back to a user who stakes to it.
One of Howlpack’s most recent accomplishments is a Howl embed feature that allows anyone to post their latest “Howls” to their website using a simple iframe code:
Howl has seen recent improvements to the site, with the addition of YouTube support and GIFs via Giphy. Howlpack’s additions are more of an extension to Howl, but showcase how one community member can make a difference in a project.
When asked what they plan to do next, Howplack replied:
“Next on the list is Twitter sharing. For a long time they disabled public API, but now it should be enabled. I’ll dig into that next.”
